Overview |

The Graduate LEVEL 1 course comprises of a three day on-court practical learning experience. It covers a range of theoretical and practical sessions including: The Role of the Coach, Teaching Techniques, Skill Development, Lesson Organisation, Groundstrokes, Net Play, Serve, Teaching Adults and Game Play, Wet Weather Lessons, The Internet, Legal Responsibilities of the Coach and Getting Started as a Coach. |

This course aims to prepare and develop beginner coaches to a standard where they are able to professionally coach and train juniors and adults at a beginner to mid competition level of playing standard. The coaching skills being learnt are predominately practical and enjoyable with emphasis on "doing it" on court. All competencies learnt throughout the course will equip new coaches with all the necessary knowledge, practical teaching skills and associated coaching methods to become a successful coach within the industry. |

Learning Outcomes- upon completion you will be able to |
| |
Use occupational Health and safety practices- including equipment use and managing minor injuries.
Ensure a positive environment and appropriate communication, motivational and conflict resolution skills
Identify basic biomechanical and kinesiological concepts.
Demonstrate stroke production techniques and methods of coaching at basic level for each of the following: Forehand, Backhand, Serve and Overhead, Volley, Grips, Spins, Open stance and all related components of same.
Plan and organise and conduct group coaching with maximum participation including with infants.
Demonstrate ball feeding techniques- by coach and pupil.
Recognise common technique flaws and provide appropriate correction.
Demonstrate and conduct warm-ups, games, modified activities, with the use of targets and “Games Sense”.
Organise a half or 1 day tournament for kids and adults and conduct round robin, knockout, handicap and social tennis activities.
Identify disabilities, physiological, and technical difficulties and apply appropriate activities for talent development.
Apply basic psychological strategies including positive thinking, tension control,
behaviour management.
Have basic understanding of and compliance with current rules and regulations and relevant tribunals.
Model and have students apply appropriate standards of attitude in sportsmanship and etiquette.
Understand the legal responsibilities and liabilities of a coach including risk behaviour, harassment, drug use and abuse, duty of care, negligence, insurance.
Plan a player’s tournament/competition schedule at primary level for local or regional application with appropriate bodies.
